Indigo Bunting!

It's a horrible photo, but the best of the two that I took yesterday after gathering my wits when I realized that the little blue bird I was seeing in the draw was an indigo bunting, not a "regular" bluebird in weird light.

Indigo buntings are actually known to breed in eastern Kansas and I've seen them before in the state, but not in Sedgwick County and especially not in my own yard!

I love indigo buntings! We had some in our yard for the first time this spring, though we haven't seen them since.

They just light up the area around them, don't they, Jason?

We have both Indigo Buntings and Blue Grosbeak...really hard to tell them apart. Love that gorgeous blue.

I saw a female blue grosbeak earlier this summer near my pond, but never the male. .I have also seen ONE indigo bunting here. .several years ago. .what fun they are to sneak a peek at. .especially when it is in your OWN backyard!!
